What We Do

Complete Marine Design
& Permitting Services

Every service your waterfront project requires — designed, permitted, and coordinated by our in-house team from start to finish.

Agency Permitting

Every Agency.
Handled Directly.

Florida Keys waterfront projects require coordination with multiple federal, state, and local agencies. We manage all of them on your behalf.

ACOE
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Reviews projects affecting waters of the United States. Most dock, dredging, and fill projects in the Keys require an ACOE permit or Nationwide Permit authorization.
FDEP
Florida Dept. of Environmental Protection
Issues Environmental Resource Permits for construction in, on, or over Florida’s surface waters and wetlands. Required for docks, seawalls, dredging, and fill throughout Monroe County.
FKNMS
Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary
Coordinates impacts to coral habitats within the Sanctuary. Projects with potential coral impacts require FKNMS review. Our FKNMS-approved biologist conducts required benthic surveys in-house.
Local
Local Building Permits
Monroe County, Village of Islamorada, City of Marathon, City of Layton, and City of Key West each require building permits. We design to meet local code and provide all agency approvals to your contractor.
How local permits work: Glen Boe Associates designs your project to comply with all applicable local building regulations and obtains the required ACOE, FDEP, and FKNMS approvals. The property owner’s contractor typically applies for the local building permit directly. We provide the contractor with all federal and state approvals and coordinate with them if questions arise.

Why Glen Boe Associates

Everything In-House.
Nobody Knows the Keys
Like We Do.

Most permitting firms subcontract the parts they can’t do themselves. We don’t. Our team covers engineering, biology, and agency permitting under one roof — and we’ve been doing it in the Florida Keys for over 40 years.

01

Licensed Professional Engineer On Staff

All design drawings and permit documents are prepared in-house by our licensed PE. No subcontracting, no delays waiting on outside consultants.

02

FKNMS-Approved Biologist In-House

FKNMS requires benthic surveys be performed by a biologist holding a valid sanctuary permit. Our staff biologist holds that authorization and performs surveys in-house — keeping your project on schedule.

03

40+ Years in the Florida Keys

We know Monroe County’s waterways, environmental conditions, and agency expectations — including FKNMS coral protocols unique to the Keys. That knowledge translates into faster, cleaner approvals.

04

Family-Owned — You Talk to the Team

When you call Glen Boe Associates, you speak directly with the people working on your project. No account managers, no runaround.

How It Works

The Florida Keys
Permit Process

Most waterfront projects in the Florida Keys require permits from multiple agencies. Here is how Glen Boe Associates manages the process for you.

01

Site Assessment

We visit your property, review waterway conditions, and identify what permits your project will require from ACOE, FDEP, FKNMS, and applicable local agencies.

02

Engineering & Survey

Our PE prepares design drawings. Our FKNMS-approved biologist conducts any required benthic or coral impact survey. All work performed in-house.

03

Applications & Submission

We prepare complete ACOE, FDEP, and FKNMS applications with all required documentation and submit them on your behalf.

04

Approval & Handoff

We track agency reviews, respond to requests for additional information, and deliver all approvals to your contractor with full coordination support.

Local building permits: Glen Boe Associates designs all projects to meet local building regulations. The property owner’s contractor typically applies for the local permit from Monroe County, Village of Islamorada, City of Marathon, City of Layton, or City of Key West.
